Introduction
As an adult, you may be considering orthodontic treatment. Having straight teeth can improve your overall health and well-being, but it's important to get the right type of care for your specific needs. If you're looking into Invisalign® or traditional braces for adults, there are so many questions: What does my extras cover? Will this treatment be effective? How long will it take? Luckily, Dr. O'Malley can answer these questions and more!
Why would an adult consider orthodontics?
There are a number of reasons why an adult may consider receiving orthodontic treatment.
Improved appearance: Most adults would agree that a straighter smile helps improve one’s appearance when they are talking to someone, or just in general.
Self-esteem: A straight smile can also boost self-esteem, which can lead to increased confidence and better social interactions.
Reduced risk of dental problems: That’s right! Getting braces for your teeth has many benefits like improving your appearance and boosting your confidence, but there is another reason that you may not have thought of - reducing the risk of dental problems! By allowing your teeth to move into their proper positions during treatment, there is a lower chance that tooth decay or gum disease can occur after braces are removed.
It also helps reduce the risk of them chipping or cracking due to incorrect collisions when coming together.
If any of these sound like something you could benefit from then call us today so we can schedule an appointment for you!
Do I qualify for clear aligners?
In order to be a candidate for clear aligners, you must:
Be able to commit to wearing your aligners for the full treatment time. This may mean wearing them as often as 22 hours per day. It’s important that you are able and willing to wear them this long in order to achieve the best results possible.
Have healthy gums and teeth. You must not have any active gum disease (e.g., gingivitis or periodontitis).
What does treatment cost?
The cost of treatment depends largely on the severity of your problem. In general, the initial consultation will be complimentary, and Invisalign® or other clear aligner treatment can run at a minimum $35 a week for the duration of the treatment. However, if you have dental insurance coverage for orthodontics (this rarely covers all treatment costs), this should cover most of it.
Will my insurance cover any of the cost of my treatment?
It's important to check with your insurance company about whether or not they'll cover any of the cost of your treatment. Many major insurance companies do offer at least some coverage for orthodontic treatments, especially if there are other dental issues that may be covered as well.
What are my payment options?
You can pay for your orthodontic treatment in full at the start (to receive a discount), or you may want to consider one of our monthly installment plans. We offer a number of interest-free financing options and payment plan options.
What are the benefits of Invisalign® vs. traditional braces?
Traditional braces, also known as "metal braces," are the most common orthodontic appliance. However, they're not the only option! Invisalign® or clear aligners are a great alternative to traditional braces and many people choose this method because it offers:
Removable aligners that you can take out to eat, brush and floss
Clear plastic aligners which makes them virtually invisible.
How long do they take to work?
How long do they take to work?
The length of treatment time for orthodontics depends on the complexity of your case and can range from 9 to 24 months. Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and brushing, but otherwise must be worn for about 22 hours a day.
If you don't like the way your teeth look after treatment, you can always get them fixed again!
What is the treatment process like?
Now that you understand what adult orthodontics are, let's take a look at the process.
The first step is to have an evaluation with our team member to determine if you're a good candidate for this treatment option. During this meeting, they will examine your teeth and bite, discuss any concerns you may have and help make sure that adult orthodontic treatment is right for you. If everything checks out as expected, they'll create an individualised plan just for you based on their findings. This includes some lifestyle changes (such as changing the way in which your eat), but also showing off those pearly whites!
Once we've got a plan in place to begin treatment, we'll schedule regular appointments with our team members throughout the process—which can last anywhere from 9 months up to 24 months depending on how much movement needs to be adjusted around each tooth or jawbone—and provide aligners made specifically for adults during each visit. During these visits we will also check their progress using digital images taken of them every two weeks until their finish date has been reached so we can monitor how well things are going overall during this time period."
Can I speak with an actual patient who was treated with this technology to learn more about their experience?
You can also speak with a patient who was treated with this technology. Your dentist may be able to refer you to someone who has already undergone treatment (such as some of our wonderful team members) , or you can ask your dental hygienist if they know of any patients that were treated with Invisalign.
You will want to consider asking these questions:
How long did it take for the treatment process?
What was the cost of treatment?
Was there a lot of discomfort during the process, and if so, how much discomfort?
There are many benefits that come with correcting your teeth, so don't be afraid to talk to your dentist about orthodontic treatments.
Corrective orthodontics can help you have a better smile. If you're unhappy with the way your teeth look, then it's no surprise that this can affect how confident you feel. Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, so it's important to be comfortable with how your teeth look.
Corrective orthodontics can help you have a healthier mouth. When certain areas of your mouth are misaligned, they may lead to problems such as tooth decay and gum disease which may require treatment in order to fix them properly and reduce any pain caused by infection or discomfort in that area.
Corrective orthodontics can help you have a more confident smile. Many adults who undergo treatment report an increase in confidence after they've finished their course of treatment because they are now able to show off the beautiful results achieved through braces or other corrective appliances - whether those results include straightening crooked teeth or improving bite function!
